CTV's Discovery Channel Rebrands To USA Network On Jan. 1st

There's nothing more Canadian than a network called "USA!" But that's the new name of the soon-to-be former Discovery Channel, which is a more general entertainment station on American cable.

Despite the new moniker, the channel is promising some Canadian programming and even if you don't subscribe, you'll be able to watch a free preview at launch. It runs from Jan. 1- Feb. 28th.

What bell media should have done is rebrand Discovery into a canadian version of tbs, metv, true tv or maybe ctv compatition.

Yes, but with a Canadian twist. The old USA Network I used to watch on my C-Band satellite dish decades ago was really good, making a lot of its own shows. Now it's mostly reruns of the various Law & Orders. Hope the Canadian one is better.

I am surprised that Bell didn't call the station USA Network Canada...They had to change the name by Jan 1st since Bell Media lost the rights for the lifestyle Discovery Channel to Rogers.  Global got all of the press in losing HGTV and Food, but Bell also lost some rights of some Warner Bros. channels  to Rogers including Discovery.

What are they doing with the CTV2 Channels?  Honestly, living in Barrie and the local CTV2 channel is so sad.  Besides a few good shows its just infomercials and lucky if you catch the news. I drove by the station one day during the week and maybe 3 cars in the parking lot.  Sad.
