Audiophoolery in action

Not a local story, and not radio-related, but this might be of interest to electronic engineers, IP lawyers and the many PR crisis management professionals gracing our local airwaves today.

As we all know, the high-end audio industry is fertile ground for dubious people and products separating customers from their money. An English youtuber known as 'Mend it Mark' posted a repair video of a £25,000 phono pre-amp, gently noting that some of the device's innards were of questionable quality for such a high price. The video was promptly removed on the grounds of copyright infringement, presumably at the behest of the amplifier's manufacturer, Tom Evans Audio Design.

This has caused a stir in the right-to-repair community, leading to one of the most effective examples of the Streisand Effect I've seen in recent years. You can watch the offending video here. Come for Mend it Mark's folksy charm, stay for the schadenfreude of brand damage.
