The CRTC has officially approved the transfer of ownership of CJOS-FM from Bell Canada to Zoomer Media. The station will continue to operate the same rock format it currently has.
How much has this cost Moses and Co.? The transaction is worth $1,881,951, with the purchase price of $1,500,001 for the station and $381,950 for leases payable over the next five years. Seems like a lot for a station in Owen Sound, but I admit I'm not entirely familiar with the going rates.

Bell Media filed with the Commission for a mass sell-off of their smaller market radio stations in February of this year. This whole thing is going at a snail's pace with the application to sell their Niagara cluster (CHTZ-FM, CHRE-FM and CKTB AM) still pending. Furthermore, apparently their CEO recently hinted at another mass sell-off of even more assets. This was before the disputed TSN sell-off rumor.

They definitely haven't made it a secret that they're done with media and sports.
The sports spinoffs were a lot easier with an obvious buyer and fewer regulatory challenges. I'll give it 18 months until they're out of media completely.

Interesting to note that Zoomer is going to keep running it as a local rock formatted station.

Maybe. Every buyer always says that.

Does anyone know why this purchase would be approved before others? This one was on a later hearing. How does it get bumped up?

My guess would be because its the simplest.

I thought the same, but then asked why would it be more simple than Durham buying Peterborough? There is nothing that makes it any more or less complex? To that point - none of the deals are really difficult especially since the only question the commission needs to answer is "is it in the publics best interest". No one with an ounce of common sense would say that the stations are better off with Bell?

Don't forget, every decision has to be translated into French before it is made public. That means licence conditions have to be translated, as well as the "reasoning" for the decision there's an approval process within the CRTC once the translation(s) are drafted. That adds delays. More than 1 station to an application or multiple applications - multiply the paperwork in French translation. Right now, there's been a lot of decisions on the telecom side released as well as public consultations. Each of those documents - some run to 35 pages or more, must be translated into both "official languages". If there's a backlog in translation dept on the telecom side, that hits broadcast decisions. the Current chair woman has very little interest in broadcasting matters. Her focus is on TV streaming $$$ from foreign competitors, and reducing internet and cell phone costs. That's a fact Jack.
I realize people question "why" there an English language station in an English language market would have its decision held up, by an overwhelmed French translation dept. That's the law.
Your tax $$$ at work.

Yes, the Durham one is simple, too. Maybe it's next?
The only one that has any complication is Kingston/Brockville because it gives MBC five (Canadian) FMs that reach the Kingston market well. Probably won't be an issue, but they'll talk about it, especially if there are any interventions regarding that.

Not sure you can exactly call it a "rock" format at present-a quick playlist glance brings up Whitney Houston, Neil Diamond, Madonna and NSync.

This is from a direct quote by the CRTC in their announcement, under point number 32, Programming.
"Zoomer confirmed that it would continue operating the station under the Rock Music format."
Regardless of the playlist you saw, clearly that's what the Commission considers rock, for whatever that's worth.
