It's musical chairs time at AM640, as temporary host Anthony Furey switches time slots after subbing for John Oakley afternoons for the past two weeks. He's confirmed he'll be sitting in for Greg Brady in the morning slot on Friday. Which leaves the question - who takes Oakley's shift?
So far that isn't clear, but one thing that is is that 640 no longer has the bullpen strength it once did. Furey normally hosts the morning weekend show, formerly occupied by newly permanent Ben Mulroney, who now has the mid-morning weekday gig. Saturday and Sunday has been temporarily taken over by Davelle Morrison, a frequent Furey guest, and now he'll try his hand in the most important time slot in radio - if only for one day.
I'll be curious to see who takes the Friday drive home slot. Since supersub Arlene Bynon appears to no longer be in play, who's left? We'll find out Friday afternoon.

Eric Kam from TMU is good. He sits in occasionally and is funny and well spoken. Not sure he could host on his own but would be a good second banana.

Ted Woloshyn. He's tight with Tom.

Ted Woloshyn?
You can't be serious.
In his heyday he was a funny and clever guy but as the years went by he became a sort of bitter right wing bore, no longer funny, then just a shill for some restaurant owner of a local musician that nobody's ever heard of.

Ever catch his stand-up act back in the day? He was never funny. Never found a free restaurant lunch he didn't love, either. No, I wasn't serious.

Been a couple weeks, it seems.

Broadcast Dialogue confirms that Drex will, indeed, be sitting in the air chair on Friday in Oakley's stead. I'm curious about this - what kind of agreement does he have with Indie that he can go on the competition for a day without any apparent consequence? Is he freelancing at both stations or is he out at 88.1?
It's odd to see a talent appear on two unaffiliated stations in the same market at the same time. I'd be curious to know how this works.

Drex mentioned on his return to 640 that he hadn't done talk radio in four years. "I've been playing records all this time," he noted in his crossover with Alex Pierson.
He also mentioned that Rogers stopped the music, by which he meant they fired him from his gig in Vancouver.
I wonder if this puts him back on the now much depleted 640 fill-in list.
Interestingly, his very guest was a Paralympian, who is obsessed with radio and has been blind from birth. He recalls being taken on a tour of 1050 CHUM as a kid and recalled he was thrilled when Russ McLeod allowed him to introduce the weather. Fascinating to contemplate a little kid who can't see absorbing the atmosphere of a radio studio for the first time, while not being able to observe anything visually.
