I recently remembered a story I heard about Larry Silver, although it happened before I got to CFTR. It was the mid-70s and the late Clint Nickerson was doing news on the station. His petite mother, the very picture of the cliched "little old lady," sweet and innocent, prim and proper, was in visiting her son from Vancouver, and he brought her to the studios to give her a tour.
That's when Larry Silver came over.
The story goes that he put out his hand to shake hers, looked her straight in the eye, and asked, "Mrs. Nickerson, how the fuck are ya?"
Now normally, that kind of language would have shocked this grey haired senior, but he did it with such aplomb and charm that she barely noticed. And the tour continued.
I remember meeting Silver when I finally got there, and frankly, I could never quite figure out how to talk to him. He'd come up to me and say something like, "How are you? Anyways?" How in the world do you answer that question when he says it that way?
A definite character and one-of-a-kind. I was wondering whatever became of him?
His Linked-In page does not give many clues, only indicating that he may be living in Cambridge. He lists himself as an "independent broadcaster" but other than that, there's nothing - not even a list of his experience.
Anyone have an update on this true broadcasting original?

I last saw Larry at a Radio Station Lounge getogether at a restaurant in Acton. It was just over a year ago, at the end of September 2023, and had a conversation about news radio as a format. I don't keep in touch, or really know him on a personal level.
