Job cuts at TVO

Right before the jolly man in the red suit is scheduled to slide down the chimney, workers at TVO Today got their pink slips, according to EIC Graeme Bayliss:

Just got laid off as editor-in-chief of TVO Today after eight years. Some of my very talented colleagues were also let go. Hire them for all your writing and editing needs. Hire me if they’re unavailable.

More later.

UPDATE: Hearing that about 20 people got the chop today.

Dougie's  got to pay for the tunnel somehow. My sympathy to those who lost their  paycheck.

And the circle gets a little smaller. Terrible time of year for this to happen, I wish them all the best.

TVO's recent 3-Part series on the current state of the Great Lakes is high-quality audio/video with amazingly detailed information.

I highly recommend it. Here's episode one...

Re: Job cuts at TVO

I remember when TVO aired the kids show Polkaroo! If that is still a staple on the station, I hope they didn't fire that stuffed animal to kingdom come!

In all seriousness, this has been a really tough year in the biz.

I trust, that Steve Paikin's the Agenda is still on air.

The world would be so good if it weren't for some people...

Possibly, it's difficult for any government to maintain, let alone expand, funding for a service that has diminished value.

Not quite that number as it turns out, but one is too many.

Just a quick update - this story from The Trillium puts the number of layoffs at 16, and provides some context as to what's happening right now at TVO.
