It's mostly online and mostly in western Canada, but some will see additional late news shows. Perhaps a hedge against coming cuts in the event of a new government?

Or maybe just living up to their mandate?

On the TV side it looks like it’s mainly adding new late local news in each of the four Atlantic provinces, replacing a regional newscast.

Well, the timing is certainly interesting if they're worried about the mandate. Why now?
It's harder to take away a service once it's added than to never let it happen at all.

This expansion couldn't have been what Catherine Tait meant by "bonuses" could it?
Sidebar: why isn't "couldn't've" more widely used? The only place I can recall seeing a double contraction in print was "The Catcher in the Rye", not to be confused with "Catcher in the rye Rye".

Did you know J.D. Salinger once got a penalty while he was playing hockey?
Two minutes for Holden....

No objection. Maybe they'll hire those laid off by the big private media conglomerates.

That's terrible. Which is exactly why I will use it!

The new regional CBC FAST news channels are a welcome addition. It'll be nice to have other options besides Global News and CityNews 24/7.

So I happened to check out the new 11 PM newscasts on CBC Nova Scotia, and unfortunately it turns out to be a cut down rebroadcast of the 6 PM CBC Nova Scotia News. I'm assuming this is the case for the late night CBC regional newscasts in New Brunswick, PEI, and Newfoundland & Labrador.
That's kind of disappointing, considering these rebroadcasts replaced a live (but pan-regional) newscast.

Upon closer inspection, the 11 PM newscasts on CBC Calgary, Vancouver, and Winnipeg also appear to be cut down versions of their 6 PM news.
CBC Toronto, Montreal, and Edmonton still appear to have a live 11 PM show, or at least a different one than 6 PM.
I guess in order for a bunch of these FAST channels to exist, most of the 11 PM newscasts on CBC TV had to be sacrificed.
