iHeart U.S. Axes Hundreds Of Jobs

It's another sad sign of the times - radio giant iHeart Media in the U.S. is laying off hundreds of people amid a fresh round of cutbacks.

This is never easy, but you have to love how a spokesperson tries to put a positive spin on it.

“Although in a company of 10,000 people very few jobs have been affected, there have been some and we never take this step lightly no matter how few jobs it entails; every team member is important to us and has our respect and appreciation.”

So much appreciation, they've found they can somehow live without these people they value so much.

Some employees got the bad news on
Monday, with more getting the boot on Tuesday. A few angry ex-employees accuse the company of using the American election as a smoke screen so the mass firings won't get as much attention.

No word on how many or who may have gotten cut in Buffalo, where iHeart owns major stations like WGRF, WHTT, and 103.3 The Edge.

To really show how much the respect and appreciate these employees, why didn't they do what most big corporations do -- wait until about one week before Christmas to fire them, just to make the holiday spirit that much more special.

And now we know the reasons for the layoff timing. According to this article, it happened "just days before the company is set to disclose its revenue for the third financial quarter of the year."

You can only imagine what will be in that report.

iHeart does not own any Buffalo stations. WGRF, WHTT and 103.3 The Edge are owned by Cumulus Media. I think iHeartRadio has a partnership with Cumulus to add their stations to the service.
