Re: What Are Canadian Channels Planning To Show On U.S. Election Night?

Yes, they could substitute any shows. But chances are most viewers would not know about the changes. Getting the new skeds to DVRs, TV guides, potential viewers et. al would be difficult at the last minute and likely ruin recordings and require expensive sponsor makegoods. And those two words are the key - "last minute." These decisions would have to be made on the fly. There would be no time to tell anyone or promote the change.

There's no way City would show a new episode of Chicago Med or Fire or PD out of pattern, losing three simsub opportunities. I'm just saying it would be an inconvenience to viewers and require some last minute planning by station programmers. especially since none of them would know in advance.

I know you love to jump on almost everything I say, but there's nothing denigrating here about Canadian stations. It's just a tough spot to be in and very last minute.

Consider what would be affected by an unannounced last minute Wed. interruption:

CTV:
 The Masked Singer (Fox)
The Summit (CBS)

Global:
Survivor (CBS)
Abbott Elementary (ABC)

CityTV:
Chicago Med (NBC)
Chicago Fire (NBC)
Chicago PD (NBC)

That’s six and a half hours of programming between them to have to compensate for at the last minute.

Not impossible, of course. But not fun. And no way to prepare if it's due to sudden breaking news.

Fun discussion, but hopefully moot and next Wednesday will be normal.

Especially if a certain candidate wins. He's already doing this, and it's not only completely false and outrageous but an extreme waste of the court's time.

Trump sues CBS News over 60 Minutes interview with Harris; network says suit is "completely without merit"

This is also the same numbskull who wants to pull the licences of both CBS and ABC over their "biased" election coverage. Too bad he doesn't seem to know that a network does not require a licence - just their affiliates.

More like a useless discussion...

I didn't find it so and there's no requirement to read any specific posts. So if this was a waste of time, it was yours.

I might also point out this thread has over a thousand page views, which is unusual for SOWNY. So perhaps a lot of "someones" found it worthwhile.

Re: What Are Canadian Channels Planning To Show On U.S. Election Night?

Our discussion this afternoon was the waste of time, not the thread.  And this one already had 1,000 views when we started.  If the US networks had to cancel all prime time programming this Wednesday it would need to be over something very serious so I am sure most people here and there wouldn't be twisting about Abbott Elementary or Chicago Med being pre-empted.  The Canadian stations may in fact still play the program anyway.  Global and CTV have done this various times.

And yet you chose to keep responding to it. Maybe not a waste of time after all. Anyway, I'll let you have the last word if you want it.
