In all the years I've been a DXer, I've never gotten a sniff of any radio station from Europe. And now that AM is mostly extinct over there, I guess I missed the window for good.
But it doesn't seem to work that way for everyone. A guy listening through the static in Norway picked up WKMI 1360 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and contacted the station for confirmation, sending a snippet of audio - which you can hear in the article below - as proof.
Many stations would send a simple acknowledgment and move on. But the brand manager for the FM side decided to highlight it on their website. Not that he gives a very good accounting of the other band. Imagine a rep. from a radio outlet posting this:
"The talk station is nearly entirely automated these days as there isn't much room for innovation in the current climate of radio - particularly on the AM dial...
"Most people dismiss AM signals these days. Admittedly, so do I. I'm not sure in my 30 years of life I've ever personally listened to an AM station with any intent beyond fixing something on WKMI over the past year and a half. But, there's a certain respect anyone who works with or in radio should have with the signal."
That may be true but wow! Way to promote one of your stations! Still, congrats to the guy in Norway. A great catch and one most of us are never likely to make.
