I was looking at the CHUM chart from October 26 1964. I noticed at the back of the chart was a promo for a big concert the station was presenting at Maple Leaf Gardens on Nov 1st/64. Included in the line up, Robbie Lane & The Disciples... 60 years ago! This was prior to the weekly TV show A-Go-Go '66 and It's Happening which Robbie and the band were featured and later starred in on CTV.
Robbie Lane and his group are still active and performing in the Toronto area. Robbie of course can be heard through the week on AM740.
Congratulations Mr. Lane on a wonderful and long musical and broadcasting career. And here's to many more years of entertaining ahead!

Hawkins backing band at this time was Ronnie and his band. He spoke about those years during a conversation with Gene Stevens on his show Vintage Favorites a few weeks back. I don't think they make an on-demand recording available but here is a descriptor.

Here is the pilot for A-Go-Go '66 taped at CFTO on June 14th 1965. Mike Darow from CHUM was the host with Robbie Lane & The Disciples as the house band. The show had it's debut on the CTV network in September 1965. One of the guests on the pilot was Shawne Jackson who in the mid 70's had a hit with Just As Bad As You. Claudette Barry was one of the go-go dancers on the show. She would be back in 1979 with a major world wide disco hit called Boogie Woogie Dancin Shoes under the name of Claudja Barry. Jon and Lee and The Checkmates also appear and the Allen Sisters. The tape takes a few seconds to get going, for a pilot wasn't a bad effort.
