CBC’s weekly call in show will have an added audience this Sunday. Its “Cross Country Check-Up” is taking on the U.S. election with just a few weeks to go, and is teaming up with “The Middle,” which airs on more than 400 Public Radio stations down south. Host Ian Hanomansing will do the show out of WDET-FM in Detroit.
I’m not a regular listener to this CBC show, but it should be interesting to hear the different countries react to the choices running for President. And it could be an eye-opener (ear opener?) for Americans to hear how their counterparts up north are viewing what’s going on down there.
It airs beginning at 4PM on CBC Radio 1.

The full two hours will also be on CBC News Network. Normally only the first hour is on TV. It's interesting how many of the guests and callers now appear on video during the show and they will have a few cameras in studio with Ian.
Michigan again is going to be a very important state to win. I heard that Michigan television and especially the metro Detroit area is getting some of the highest rates in the US for the campaign TV advertising. Some of the long breaks during newscasts are all political advertising, I have never seen so many.
I hope they have some calls from Americans that are now living in Canada. It will be intriguing to hear what they have to say. Should be a good show.

Very interesting to listen to so far.
On the NPR side, this is not being carried live on some of the major west coast stations, including KQED in San Francisco and KUOW in Seattle. So this seems to be only a certain group of NPR stations that are part of this.

Ian and his WDET co- host Jeremy Hobson sounded good together. Considering, as Ian Hanomansing mentioned, that they had only met about an hour before air time.
What a nice change to listen and watch a talk show where the hosts, guests and callers weren't talking over each other, and having a real discussion! The hosts that let callers and guests speak without being interupted or challenged every 15 seconds. The Democrate and Republican guests were well behaved too.
Found it interesting that they had one minute sponsorship breaks for the PBS stations. I watched the show on CBC News Network more than listen on radio. The TV side went off smoothly as well. Most of the callers were ok, a few misses but overall not bad IMO.

I listened and did not regard it as a 'real discussion'. Plenty of coded language from the callers, people don't speak that way on the street. I believe they were coached and instructed by the phone staff what identifiers not to use. Hanomansing had to illuminate us at one point by saying "you're talking about Israel". Or how about the woman who spoke about abortion never saying the word. And of course a transvestite rights caller...
Odd that no one mentioned the United States is going bankrupt.
May have miscounted but I tallied 17 production staff shout outs + the hosts for 2 hour show.

According to Mark Cuban, speaking on Bill Maher this past Friday, not only is the US economy doing the best in the history of the country currently, but is the strongest in the world, and is miles ahead in GDP than Europe and Canada combined. He bases this on the technology of Silicon Valley being way more advanced than China and others, especially in the AI field. Seeing as I don't have two nickels to rub together, I am not going to argue with him.

For those who don't get HBO or Crave and are curious about Real Time, CNN shows a rebroadcast of Maher's long running program every Saturday night at 8 PM, breaking news excepted.

Agree with mic'em the US is a long long way from being bankrupt. When the EU was formed in 1993, the participating European countries combined had about the same size of economy as the US. Many thought it was only a matter of time before it would surpass the American economy. Nope. Today the US economy is over twice the size as the EU. And China is still far behind as well and hasn't been advancing quickly. Like many countries, including Canada, the US needs to control their deficits.
The US stock market has never been higher (same with the TSX) and unemployment in the US is at record lows.
In terms of yesterdays Cross Canada Check Up. I would be interested to hear how the callers were coached what to say and the evidence of this. People don't speak that way on the street? They do on CC CheckUp and I am sure the same on NPR stations for call in shows. Yes Ian asked the caller if she was talking about Israel. She was dancing about the issue and a bit vague so he wanted her to clarify. This is a problem because?? Both hosts did an excellent job in my opinion.

Depends on your carrier. My shop gets its CNN through Rogers and every Saturday night instead of Real Time, CNN subs with Forensic Files. Presumably both WBD and Bell Media are protecting Canadian rights holder Crave.

Bill Maher was off for a few weeks and Forensic Files was on at 8pm on Saturday. The listings from Rogers Cable in Kitchener for CNN had him listed at 8pm last Saturday and this week as well, with a repeat at 11pm.
Can't see them protecting HBO or Crave since Real Time has already run a few times the day before on Friday.

Except CNN has been running 'next' promos for Real Time during the 7p hour on Saturday. Plus, why would it be off in the final weeks of an election campaign?
There were new day-after clips on YouTube until a few weeks ago. Presumably, Bell put a stop to those in Canada, just like it had for Late Night for Seth Meyers (which only lasted a few months. Afterward, Meyers even had a tag on the end of those videos thanking CTV for lifting its embargo!)
TV Guide's US national listings have Maher at 8 & 11p Saturday, with a new episode. Let's see what happens.

My apology, I didn't write my post very well. Bill Maher was off for a few weeks 4 or 5 weeks ago for a summer break and CNN ran Forensic Files in his timeslot. According to Rogers own schedule his show was on last Saturday and is scheduled for this coming week. As you say, let's see if Real Time is on Rogers this week.

In keeping with this U.S.-focus, CBC's This Hour Has 22 Minutes will be airing a one hour special at 8 PM about the race for President on Nov. 4th - the day before the American election. (It's one hour - so shouldn't this episode really be called This Hour has 44 Minutes? )

And there we have it: another episode of Forensic Files. EDIT: there are clips of last night's episode on YouTube.

I asked my friend with the U.S. sat dish to check CNN. He confirms Real Time is on at 8 PM and will repeat at 11 PM.

His show is not on Bell Fibe right now either. I watched it last night on HBO and he had his hands full with Meghan Kelly. It isn't listed on the Bell Fibe schedule tonight either. It was scheduled last week.
