PBS Airing "Sgt. Pepper's" Special On 50th Anniversary This Weekend

Normally there's not much new on Saturday, but this coming one will be different.

WNED, along with most of the PBS stations, will be airing a new documentary called "Sgt. Pepper's Musical Revolution," in honour of the 50th anniversary of the legendary album that changed music. Here's the description of the show:

A look at the creation and ongoing influence of the Beatles' "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band," which was released on June 1, 1967. A landmark achievement, it is considered one of the greatest albums of all time. Included: studio chat between band members; isolated instrumental and vocal tracks; and the back-story of how some of the songs came to be.

According to udiscovermusic.com:

"...the hour-long special promises “material never before accessible outside of Abbey Road Studios, including recordings of studio chat between band members and isolated instrumental and vocal tracks”, while revealing “the nuts and bolts of how the album came together” and offering “insights into the choices made by The Beatles and George Martin.”

It airs at 8 PM Saturday night, June 3rd, with additional airings on June 6 at midnight, June 8 at 8 PM and June 10 at 9:30 PM. My guess is that its initial airing is going to be filled with pledge breaks, so while the Beatles would love to turn you on, I'm sure WNED would love to have you turn it on.
