First it was the Jays.
Now it's the Leafs.
As the Buds get ready to start their pre-season, Amazon Prime has confirmed there will be at least six games that won't be on either Sportsnet or TSN this year. They'll air exclusively on Prime instead (although they'll still be on the radio locally.)
The games you won't be able to watch are:
Oct. 21 vs. Tampa Bay Lightning
Oct. 28 vs. Winnipeg Jets
Dec. 2 vs. Chicago Blackhawks
Jan. 20 vs. Tampa Bay Lightning
Mar. 3 vs. San Jose Sharks
Mar. 17 vs. Calgary Flames
It's not immediately clear if there will be more or what happens in the playoffs. But it is a sign that not even the Bell & Rogers-owned team can prevent their valuable property from being featured on streaming only.
Maple Leafs’ broadcast schedule includes 6 games on Amazon Prime Video

Just leaf games? Amazon isn't snatching up any Ottawa games?
I know a few people here in Toronto paying for the Hockey sports pack just to watch the Sens.
It would be a shame to lose some of those games to Amazon.

The article was solely about the affected Leaf games. There are plenty of other teams also involved which will keep games off of regular cable. Here's one about Edmonton, for example.

6 games? Along with the other 76 regular season Leafs games I don't watch, that covers the entire season. It's an outrage!

The entire Amazon Prime schedule is available here.

This is interesting. I wonder if Amazon is testing to see they may be interested in taking over the NHL TV deal when it expires in 2026.

At this point the question isn't "if" but whether "how much"

I have Prime ..so does this mean I get the Western games ,as well ,that they are carrying (even though I am in Southern Ontario ?
I would imagine a blackout is involved. ?

I would think Monday is coast-to-coast. It takes over from the previous Monday Night Hockey on Sportsnet.

The future is here. Are you ready for it?
As Canadian hockey viewers brace for shift to streaming-only service, Prime Video hopes to woo them with Big Tech’s touch

The story is blocked. Guess I should subscribe to the G&M or just buy today's paper..

It appears the theory that Marek was ultimately jumping to Amazon is without merit.

I don't subscribe and had no problem. Funny how some people get blocked and others don't.
