Just happened to catch Bill Carroll the other morning rant and rave about his time at NewsTalk 1010 - more to the point his departure to California back in 2010.
Now the morning host at CFRA Ottawa, Bill took nearly two minutes of prime air time to blast his immmediate superior during his final days at 1010. He lamented that the private offices where he and other hosts would prep for their shows were permanetly taken away while the boss redecorated. Hosts were sent to a glass-walled conference style room to do show prep. Carroll said the problems began immediately with staff tapping on the glass, or waving or enteing the room to chit chat. He said things got so bad that other employees -- and I quote -- "began to think that Bill's an ass" because he didn't appreciate the constant interuptions. Those private offices by the way, according to Bill, were left with just a telephone in them so staff could make "personal" calls. He added that hosts would often have to sit on the floor while doing their show prepraration.
Things got so bad that he said he wouldn't arrive at the station for his show until just minutes before air time. When confronted by his superior who said he wanted him in the station two hours before his show he replied he simply couldn't do his reading & research at the station any longer. Shortly thereafter it was off to L.A. for Bill and his family.
Still bitter after 12 years, I was all ears but I'm not sure it was of any great interest to his Ottawa morning audience. Oh and he finished his rant by calling his former boss at 1010 "an idiot".

The thought of Bendixon pulling a Bill Lumburgh and moving Caroll's desk to the basement is amusing to me.

Or was it Steve Kowch in 2010?

Just listened to the almost 90 minute podcast of Carroll's Aug. 27th morning show. To no one's surprise, his comments about his previous Bell boss were not included.

Hey RA
Guessing I could have been more clear in stating it was "the other morning".
It was yesterday, Monday August 26th just prior to 7:30 am
And I DID find it on the iHeart page containing the podcast for that show
To help with the details the podcast runs 1:49:25 & Bill's comments can be heard starting at the 45:25 mark
Happy listening and please let me know what you think

Thanks for the clarification. I honestly thought you were referring to Tuesday's show, so that's what I listened to. Even though the guy Carroll referred to is no longer there, I'm not sure how wise it is to let loose on any Bell manager - even one who's not there any more. Something about not biting the hand that feeds you.
That said, I have to give him credit for having the guts to do it. I suppose with his name, rep. and experience, he thinks there's no harm done.

Thanks for doing that
My opening post was completely from memory
Pretty close

Just heard it and he was using it in the context of the way he thinks the feds are acting. Got it. So it wasn't just a personal rant, it was related to something.
And if what he describes is true, those were hardly great working conditions, so I don't blame him for being pissed off.
Have to admit that I love when they pull back the curtain!

Hmmmm... if he recall's acurately that it was 2010 then that would have been Mike Bendixen under Astral Media. Mike came back to CFRB in Sept 2009 replacing Kowch who took Mike's old job at CJAD for a 6 month contract.
Having worked at St. Clair during this time some of what Bill said was embelished, there was a proper Jock lounge with chairs and PC's... yes with a glass wall. I dont' recall the talent being put out for any reno's cause prior to the Jock lounge being put in Talent would go over their prep with their producer in the producer's pit which was too busy... meh

I won't listen, partially because I don't care but mostly because Carroll is a dried-up well of expired ideas. Aside from that - he also has a show called 'The Rush'?
How creative.

Just FYI, Not Steve and not Mike. But I do agree 110% will Bill.
I've refrained from dumping on that band of radiots to this day, so I'm editing my post to continue doing that.
ig.

Bill the Shill was awful. Always about his Quebecer wife and their kids. Probably my least favourite talk radio personality of all time, and that list includes such dregs as Ted Woloshyn, Karen Horseman, Rushmi, Surpriya, Jim Richards and even the Ford Bros.
