There's not a lot new here, because we've gone over the incredible history of WWJ radio Detroit before. (Many consider it the real first radio station, even before KDKA Pittsburgh, which usually claims the title.) WWJ began on August 20, 1920, making it 104 years old this month.
But what's really unusual is this: WGRD, an FM rock station in The Motor City, has published a webpage on its site praising its competitor and its amazing history as possibly the first true broadcaster in history.
But here's the thing - WGRD is owned by Townsquare Media. WWJ is in Audacy's hands. It's unusual for a station owned by one company to even mention another, let alone promote it online. A weird confluence of one company that competes against another (although the formats are very different) offering some rare praise.
