Mike Marshall has passed

Saddened to report the passing of Mike Marshall who was a frequent contributor to this page.  I had the pleasure of working with Mike at CFTR before my departure for CKLW where he was known as Frank Brodie at The Big 8.  R.I.P., Mike.

Re: Mike Marshall has passed

I was wondering why he hadn't weighed in on CHML's demise. This is terribly sad news. He was a terrific radio personality and a much valued contributor to this board. We will miss him very much.

Thanks for letting us know.

Re: Mike Marshall has passed

Incredibly sad to read this news. I mostly remember Mike from his time at CHFI. I enjoyed reading his contributions to this board over the years.

Re: Mike Marshall has passed

I'm very sorry to see this news. Not only was Mike a great contributor here, but I was very honoured to have him as part of The Oldies Music Board as well. My deepest condolences to his family and friends.

Re: Mike Marshall has passed

Mike Marshall was a constant presence here and the voice of great experience. He always had something worthwhile to contribute. One of his last posts was in January, when - somewhat ironically - I had found a special booklet online put out to celebrate the 50th anniversary of CHML. It was from 1977.

One of the pages contained a smiling pic of a very young Mike Marshall, who was then hosting the afternoon drive show at AM900.

He responded with a heartfelt tribute to his time at the station and was grateful to have worked at the same place where his father Norm became a household name.

You can see that post here.

RIP Mr. Marshall. You will be missed.

Re: Mike Marshall has passed

Mike and I worked together at CJCA Edmonton in 1964 before he moved over to CHED. He wrote a recommendation letter for me that got me the job at CHUM in February '65. Mike was a super talent. We made some amazing promos together at CJCA. As Frank Brodie, Mike helped make CKLW the powerhouse legend it was. Sad news indeed.

Sad, sad news. He was a frequent contributor to RRS. A Hall of Famer in every respect. R.I.P. Mike Marshall.

Re: Mike Marshall has passed

So sorry to hear this. I loved working with Mike at CHFI. I was producing The Morning Show and he would fill-in. He was so meticulous with his prep and his presentation and his bits. So organized and tight. I learned so much from Mike. My condolences to his family. RIP Mike.

Very, very sad news.  My heart goes out to his wife, Val; who I worked with at CHUM-FM. RIP.

Re: Mike Marshall has passed

I always wondered where the name "Frank Brodie," which he used on CKLW, came from. It wasn't until I saw in his obituary that "Brodie" was one of his given names  ("Michael John Brodie Marshall") that it made sense. Not sure where the "Frank" came from, but that explains the moniker.

Really going to miss his input here.

Re: Mike Marshall has passed

Dale Patterson's Rock Radio Scrapbook has a nice aircheck tribute to Mike, with one as Frank Brodie on CKLW and the other under his real name on CFTR.
