From CKOC's beginnings in 1922 to Dave Mickie on CHIQ and Alan Cross's attempt to remake CING into a new thing, this year-old article condenses a lot into a little. But it's still a fun read.

Strange how the article above doesn't make any mention of what has been, for many years, the dominant radio outlet in the Hamilton-Burlington market: CHML. A brief history of this colourful station can be found here:

Good point. And nothing about the FMs, either.

Yes it is odd that nothing was said about CHML. However he did mention FM, CING and it's many formats and CKDS/CJXY and Durham Radio country KX 94.7.
I remember when Y95 seemed to come out of nowhere in 1991. It boomed into the K/W, Guelph area, and I have no doubt that it eventually was taking $750,000 a year out of the K/W market in advertising. The first few times I heard it, I wasn't exactly sure where the station was from. I had forgotten about CKDS and their easy listening sound prior to becoming classic rock Y95.

I was thinking about the lack of a mention of CKLH, which, while a relative latecomer, still made a big impression in the Steel City.

The author also mentioned CING did a brief stint doing stand up comedy. I don't remember that.
