Thursday July 25th Cyclist Death in Toronto

Yesterday a 24 year old female cyclist was hit by a truck on Bloor near Avenue Road and died.

From what I understand she left the bike lane because it was partially blocked by a construction dumpster.  She was hit as she entered the roadway.

Is it too much to ask local news reporters to do their job and find out:

Does one need a permit to place a dumpster on a public road/bike lane?

If so, who was the permit issued to and who issued it.

In that same vein I’d also like to know which nearby construction project was connected to the dumpster.

BTW, the dumpster was removed by the time the 6:00 PM news reporters did their live hits from the scene.

I’m not asking for Mike Wallace here...just a few simple answers.
Thanks

CFRB's John Moore was angry about this on the morning show, indicating whoever left that bin in the lane should face consequences for their actions. We'll see if that happens.

Unfortunately we'll probably never know because the reporters I see on TV only interview tight lipped cops and bystanders and never drill any deeper.   The cops usually have no background to how something happened and understandably don't do conjecture, while the interviews with bystanders are almost always filler about how bad they feel about the incident.

Typically, once the reporter has left the scene the whole topic vanishes from the public eye never to be heard of again, leaving a pile of unanswered questions.

Fortunately this one will get lots of push back from cycling groups which hopefully will keep it on the front burner for a day or two.
