Blues Legend John Mayall Dead At 90
He was never a huge star like some of the people he influenced, but all musicians had a huge amount of respect for legendary blues artist John Mayall.
"Though Mayall never approached the fame of some of his illustrious alumni, he was still performing in his late 80s, pounding out his version of Chicago blues.
The lack of recognition rankled a bit, and he wasn’t shy about saying so. “I’ve never had a hit record, I never won a Grammy Award, and Rolling Stone has never done a piece about me,” he said in an interview with the Santa Barbara Independent in 2013. “I’m still an underground performer.”
He was 90.

I was gifted the British version of the "Beano" cover Bluesbreakers album for Christmas in 1966. It is still in my regular rotation and stands up to the test of time on every play. Thank you John Mayall for your great mentorship and commitment to making great music.
