No longer with a "Breeze" style of format, Kingston's Lake 102.7 seems to be emphasising the music of the 70's and 60's much more now. Maybe during the day they are playing more recent gold but listening this evening definately the focus is 70's and a smattering of 60's. And very few commercials. The stations promotes 20 songs in a row, not sure this is a big selling point for listeners. Certainly not for advertisers.

I've noticed also, they're playing the "standard play" versions of some songs that traditionally may have been sped up just a tad to fit more commercials in on other stations out there...

I can give you some context.
While we're waiting for CRTC approval for CFLY and CKLC we are experimenting a bit with 102.7. It's fun to hear some of these tracks on the radio.
We have one important upgrade at the tower that will be completed in the next few weeks.
At that point... all the stuff from the whiteboard will be put into action.
Can't wait!
If you want to play along...
What would your programming brain put on:
98.3
98.9
102.7
I think we've considered every possible combo on the planet - but maybe you can surprise us?

I believe 98.3 was an alternative station so my vote is alternative. And then the Pole should for sure make a comeback. The format was awesome. Not sure about 98.9 but I am sure whatever you do it will be good

I don't know much about the Kingston radio market, but for it's size looks to be very competitive with stations on both sides of the border. So, for what it's worth..
For your weakest station (listenership and revenue) maybe consider an AAA format or alternative, assuming neither are currently available. I listened to the Lake last night for about 90 minutes, not bad and maybe the new addition of the 70's and some 60's selections is worth leaving for a while. Again assuming that this isn't already happening, and if you want to stick strickly with music.
On 102.7 you could have a partial talk format. Lots of opportunity for cross border talk and political phone in shows. Something that 102.7 could do since you are under FCC rules and wouldn't need approval to add some talk. The station could stick with the current music but have some local talk shows, maybe mid morning and or afternoon drive, and some syndicated talk or sports on weekends. I would stay away from US shoutfest talk programs.
Why does the Lake's website still say playing 20K in a row? As much as I enjoyed The Pole, not so sure this format has "legs." Good luck John!

This was posted Tuesday on the Lake 102.7 Facebook page. Make of it what you will.

They've hired Garry McColeman and Wayne Matthews, longtime morning hosts at various Kingston Country stations.

98.3 I’d do a “Breeze” style format. I really believe in the soft rock format. Females love it and it should be easy to sell ads for this format
98.9 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s & 00’s - 5 decades of top hits. 80’s is in the middle so it gets more rotation
102.7 The Lake - alternative hits new and old

The current 98.3 is massively successful.

It is very important not to stomp all over sister stations. Since you are correct, any sister station sounding too much the same will have to change...

98.9 is country and 102.7 is classic hits (this week anyway) so all good there.

Small update, if you're wondering: 102.7 mentioned on their website that they've been doing technical upgrades to the station and the station's official launch will be announced soon.

The Facebook page for the station has changed. It appears the name of the station is 102.7 Wow FM

Someone forgot to tell the current radio announcer that. She just said "Lake FM". Nice hitting a post though. Very professional. Well done. (even if she might be doing several stations...?)

I think the name change becomes official on Monday when the new morning show starts

Good luck! But nothing will ever beat "The Pole..."

I'm pretty sure a couple septuagenarians who've never been on any other format than Country doing mornings on an 80s pop station will be more entertaining than The Pole.

The only thing we did wrong with the Pole was we didn't film a documentary. It was a great learning experience. Listener response was amazing and they shared some incredible feedback on "radio".
The FREQ 90.5 music library today is pretty close to what the Pole was.

RADIOAARON - let me rephrase it for you... two talented and loved broadcasters surrounded by classic pop hits... crazy idea for sure.

Also, doing a great attention-getting stunt into a soft-launch of a filler station.

To an audience who've never heard them. Good luck.

I was thinking putting Big G and Matty on 102.7 is a stunt before they move them to Pure Country 98.9 since Bell their show to Ottawa.

That makes way more sense, but that's going to take at least a year.
Now, Big G and Matty on a Classic Country 102.7 -- that's a winner.

I'm currently rocking a weekend disco and funk show on AM from St Catherines.
I wish The Pole FM lived on.
It partially inspired Amplitude on Classic 1220.
Thanks for that, Mr Jon Pole.

RadioAaron -
The stunt was more or less to clear out the old audience. The reality was the transmitter site was a mess and needed more attention than originally expected...so the stunt went on a little longer than we intended and people loved it. We didn't see that coming to be honest. Part 2 of that story is that other things including the Bell deal came along which altered our original plans and lead to us putting 102.7 into a bit of holding pattern. So... we never implemented our original plans as the game changed. Which made the process interesting. It's a great "over a beer story"
As for Big G and Matty... I have yet to meet someone IN Kingston who doesn't love them AND highly anticipate their return. They're great community guys and I'm willing to bet on them.
Will it work? No idea. We're just out here doing it in real life, not on a message board If it doesn't work... we have a country station coming that may suit them better. Who knows? Stay tuned.

You've completely misread the market.
It's too bad, because a good Soft AC with your local approach would have been a winner.
WOW with Big G and Matty is a mess, and it hasn't even launched yet.
