Radio's Struggles See High Profile Morning Crews Losing Their Jobs

It used to be a station's identity was centered around its morning team. Now it's becoming more and more likely they may not have one at all. At least according to Billboard, which says the high profile crews you listen to every AM are increasingly falling victim to radio's ongoing woes.

And the very first example in the very first paragraph of their story hits relatively close to home.

"Jessica Hoy figured her show, Mornings With Bo and Jess on CKCE-FM (101.5 Today Radio) Calgary, Alberta, was about to undergo major changes. Her co-host, Bobby May, had already warned her that he planned to quit the station in March. Hoy did not expect management to fire her and replace the show with a podcast duo based nearly 200 miles away who are broadcast on multiple stations."

Re: Radio's Struggles See High Profile Morning Crews Losing Their Jobs

The thing that I find sad about these stories is how quietly and passively the fired morning people react to the destruction oof their careers.
They make statements like, "well I guess they just have to cut costs," or "the lawyers say I should not comment."
It reminds me of the Monty Python skit about the Piranah brothers, a pair of viscious gangsters who maim and mutilate people for no reason.
One of the victims says," well he told me I had transgressed the unwritten law, and that's good enough for me."

Hosts are completely resigned to the fact that it's not "if" but "when." They're rarely shocked.

I was just going to say that. I think nowadays it's a case of constantly looking over your shoulder, just waiting for the guillotine to come down.
