Does Anyone Remember These Two Toronto Broadcasters?

In the Toronto Star's obituary section this week, I noticed two names with radio experience in this city. One I definitely don't know, but the other one is causing my memory to throb. I just can't quite recall where I've heard that name before.

The first is Andrew van Velzen, described as an activist who hosted an interview show on CIUT. Have to admit it's not a station I would know much about,

But it's the other one that has me grasping at "where have I heard that name before?." Peter Varley was a communications specialist for a number of governments, but his obit notes that he did a political talk show on Toronto radio. Not sure when the program ran, but it earned him an ACTRA Award. (How does a talk show earn an acting prize? I guess we'll never know.)

Does anyone know what station his show was on and maybe when it ran? I can't quite put my finger on why I think I've heard the name before.

In either event, my condolences to all the family and friends. It's never easy to lose someone.

Re: Does Anyone Remember These Two Toronto Broadcasters?

Peter Varley was a reporter/talk show host with an excellent broadcast voice who started his career in Western Canada and eventually landed a talk show at the former CKO network. After the networks' collapse, he moved into the communications field, where he worked for the Mike Harris government as a strategist and tater did communications work for a variety of private clients. He died recently at a relatively young age and many of his former colleagues are still among us, which likely accounts for the interest in his passing. RIP Peter.

I remembered Peter Varley's name immediately from CKO.
