Toronto storm coverage

Wanted to know if any of you listened to 640/680/1010/CBCR1 today and how they fared covering the storm.

Over on TV, unsurprisingly, none of the broadcast stations broken into regular programming. CBC News Network went into Toronto-mode and did a "news special" covering the storm. CP24 was there as usual.

On the streaming channels, CBC News Toronto simulcast CBCNN's coverage (as of this post they are simulcasting CBC Radio One's afternoon show and will be broadcasting CBC Toronto News at 6 shortly). Meanwhile CityNews 24/7 did have some updated content on the storm, but covered other news stories. Global Toronto's 24/7 channel was just on their usual national wheel.

Re: Toronto storm coverage

I thought RB did the best job overall, although Kelly Cutrara on 640 was pretty good on her show. And 680 was at its usual updating best.

Unfortunately, 640 substitute host Kevin Vuong seem more interested in dealing with politics than the unfolding flood crisis, while 1010 had far more guests on updating the various stricken roadways and transit stations.

With power out to thousands, this is really where radio has a chance to shine. Some did, a little brighter than others!

Re: Toronto storm coverage

I checked in to CFRB for a bit in the afternoon. They took no great pains to cover the event from noon to 2. There was a fill-in for Vassy, who was allegedly 'on assignment' (isn't her show the assignment?). Eventually they mustered some remotes to cover it.

Didn't listen beyond that because Hutton is a horrible ghoul and Richards is...Richards. Didn't listen to 640 because they fucking suck.

On the drive home the Corpse was live and local, engaging with callers. It was OK.

Re: Toronto storm coverage

Vassy Kapelos is reporting live from the Republican Convention in Milwaukee, so she is on assignment. They couldn't cover the flood in that timeslot since it's live across the country and Toronto isn't a priority if you're listening in Montreal or Vancouver.
