Just heard in the car that Oakley is replaced while on vacation by ousted Liberal, and now independent M-P Kevin Vuong.
Remember him?
Vuong (pronounced VONG) has faced multiple calls to resign. He was dropped as the Liberal candidate following reports of an ongoing lawsuit against him and his face-mask producing company TakeCare Supply, as well as a sexual assault charge from 2019. Vuong failed to disclose either during the party's internal vetting process. As nominations had already closed by that point, Vuong remained on the ballot as a Liberal and was elected. Vuong beat Norm Di Pasquale, the New Democratic Party (NDP) candidate in Spadina—Fort York, by less than 1,400
Today Vuong described himself as the son of Chinese refugees, an officer in the Canadian Navy, reserves and an expectant father of a baby girl.

As I recall, the sexual assault charge against him, which he vigorously denied, was withdrawn. His sin was that he never told the party it had happened.

Really, what is the matter with talk radio? A talk show is an art and very difficult to do, leave it to professional broadcasters, not amateurs. Then they wonder why Corus radio has problems. It's not rocket science.

In addition, after Vuong spent some time as an independent former Liberal, he went over to the Conservatives and begged them to take him into their caucus.
Don't know if Poilievre had a hand in their decision -- no.

He's been reading from Jamil Jivani's 'unpleasant attention prostitute' bible.

I'm not judging him on his politics (I'm frankly not even sure what they are) but just how he conducted himself as a talk show host. And you know what? From that aspect, he wasn't bad at all for a guy with only a little radio experience.
He's a frequent guest on CFRB's Roundtable in the morning. Or at least he used to be. I wonder if his hosting gig on the competition will mean he'll never be back on 1010?
But he seems to have had little trouble with formatics, throwing to traffic and other breaks, which seems to befuddle other newcomers. The show flowed fairly smoothly, which is not always the case with a guest host. I thought he acquitted himself pretty well overall.

I agree but in my experience, the professionals are now either one or more of the following:
Retired
Too old
Uninterested in jumping back in.
I understand the fresh voices idea - I can overlook some formatics slip ups as long as the host *sounds* like they want to be there, then I might want to be there too.

speaking of talk show hosts getting kind of old and tired.
Caught John Moore this morning speaking of Donald Trump, saying "he once drafted the dodge."

Additionally, the farm teams no longer exist.

'Amateur' Vuong was a better listen than either of 1010's 'professionals' on at the same time.

Should be a real test for a non-radio guy to deal with the breaking flood emergency. We'll see how he does or if he goes deep (you should pardon the expression) into it.

Speaking of substitute hosts, AM640's Alex Pierson confirmed on Wednesday she'll be off the rest of the week. And her replacement is another non-radio guy: Adam Zivo, who among other things, writes for the National Post. He's also a well known LGBTQ+ activist and even lives part time in Ukraine, where he covers the war.
I've heard him frequently as an interview guest and he speaks quite well. He's also had a number of exclusives recently, which has helped to raise his profile How he'll do with three hours of radio is another matter.
It's notable that 640 is giving these other voices a chance to be heard (i.e. Kevin Vuong) instead of the usual industry vets and subs like Arlene Bynon. et. al. I'll be curious to hear how he does.

I don't mind Arlene Bynon, but I haven't heard her filling in on 640 for at least a year, or more. She seems to have vanished.

I believe she lives out East now, possibly Nova Scotia. Doesn't mean she still can't fill-in remotely, though.

MP Vuong's time at 640 ended on Thursday. He told listeners he was catching a flight to New Zealand and Taiwan, and made a point to note he was promoting Canada - but he was paying for the junket himself and it wasn't coming out of taxpayer funds.
Ben Mulroney finishes the week on the afternoon show Friday.

Pretty specific and detailed statement to something that no-one asked. Trust but verify.
