NT1010's New Talkback App Could Be On Air Soon

I'm not quite sure what the actual name of it is, but John Moore and Jerry Agar were yakking on Thursday about a new feature on the iHeart Radio app that the station is about to put into play. It's a feature that allows a listener who wants to express an opinion on air to skip phoning in, getting screened and waiting on hold.

Instead, they just press a button on their screen, record their comment and hit "send," forwarding it directly to the station, where it will be vetted before being put on air. It's another way for listeners who would normally never call a radio station to become part of the programming and express their opinion on an issue.

What's unusual about this latest innovation, though, is what it doesn't allow - you can only speak for 30 secs. at a time before the recording stops, meaning you've got to be succinct and know what you want to say before submitting it to the station.

I imagine that will probably be the hardest part of the thing for most people and if it fails, that may be the reason why.

Moore did not give a timeframe for when they might start incorporating this into their shows.

the other problem is the host can answer with no time limit, and also listen to the comment before hand and have time to come up with a rehearsed response.
I don't think it will be so bad with Moore but you can bet Agar will rant and rave at the comment with the person no longer able to defend themselves, and you bet if they are critical of Agar he will use his advantage to manufacture a rehearsed reply.
Agar already does this with text messages .but commenting on somebody's actual voice makes any attack more personal

Mr. Moore did run just such a clip from a female listener on this mornings topic du jour -- the clear garbage bag edict for parts of cottage country.

It was a bit tough to dechipher what she was saying as Moore suggested when she finished that the plentiful background noise indicated she "may have been driving as she was speaking or perhaps she was a passenger"

Sorry I missed that. What was the quality like?

Whatever happened to 'The Breakfast Wrap' at CFRB? It was apparently a podcast precis of Moore's morning show that I recall him pitching with the same lusty gusto as CBC radio hosts do annually with their 'Sounds of the Season' gig. Then after a few months...nothing.

That "Breakfast Wrap" concept finished Sep 1, 2023 when the time slot of Moore's show changed to 6:00 am - 10:00 am after Labour Day last year. That's because "The Breakfast Wrap" packaged Moore's content prior to 6 am, promising to be released "starting at 6 am" each weekday morning.

The ambient background noise - the vehicle in motion was quite noticeable & because of that it might be unfair to pass judgement.

Suffice to say I could understand what she said but anything longer than those alloted thirty seconds - she got her entire messsage in - might have been a tune out. Maybe 3 X 5?

Many stations are using the same tech for remotes these days, and the quality can be excellent - especially with newer phones.
