Another Jays Game You Won't Be Able To See On Sportsnet

Not that you may even want to watch the team as they sink further and further in the A.L. East, but AppleTV has released its schedule of exclusive games on its streaming service and once again, the Jays are on it. This time, it's an afternoon game at Wrigley Field in Chicago on Friday, August 16th, when the Jays take on the Cubs.

It's the latest part of a deal that sees Apple with an exclusive number of Friday games that won't be available anywhere else, although you can still follow the action on the radio if you're into torturing yourself. Still unknown - whether there will be any Jays' September games that will be affected.

I still don't understand why Apple can't be the American viewpoint while Sportsnet maintains the Canadian viewpoint.

I suspect it's because Apple is available in Canada and an exclusive deal is an exclusive deal. Therefore, they can insist no one else can see it, except subscribers to their service.

When streamers eventually get all the professional sports rights, there won't be separate Canadian and US deals.

Jays fans probably thank their lucky stars these days whenever there's a game they can't watch.

The deal with Apple includes all teams in MLB.  Considering the number of regular season games the Jays play every year, the number of games on Apple so far isn't that high. But as pointed out, the streamers will be bidding on more and more professional sports in the future.
