nitpicks of the day

Now that everyone is talking about the LCBO strike, let's get some pronunciations fixed.
First of all, people who walk picket lines are called pickets, not picketers.
People who run restaurants are restaurateurs, not restauranters.
Talk show hosts, please take note.
And while we're at it, the drug that's killing so many people is fentanyl, pronounced fen-tah-nil, not fen-tah-nol.
Damn, so many professional announcers need a pronownsiation gweed.

Re: nitpicks of the day

I once went on strike against the guy who sang "Mustang Sally."

I was a Wilson Pickett.

(Oh and what do the people who make picket signs for a living carry when they go on strike?)

Re: nitpicks of the day

This is true - when I was in charge of writing the graphics for a Toronto TV newsroom many years ago, we did a story on a union that was about to go out on strike. The viz showed them getting their signs ready and preparing to walk out the next day.

And the caption I used was "Will Soon Picket."

I'm not sure how many people in the audience got the reference but it's always been a favourite of mine!

RA, I love captions like this, a bit of a groaner and definitely getting into Bad Dad Joke territory, but it shows some creativity, something you don’t see much anymore with news graphics. Citypulse used to rule at this!
