When I think of Alice Cooper - and I admit I don't do it often - golf is probably the last thing that comes to mind. But the now 76-year-old shock rocker is not only a fan of the game, he says it helped save his life and aiding in curing him of his drug addictions.
So with that in mind, perhaps it's not a surprise that he's become a new commentator for one of SiriusXM's golf channels and is a regular on one of their weekly shows.
Who knew?
“The thing is, if you have an addictive personality — and I still do — you never lose your addiction,” he says. “You just get addicted to new things.”
His new show on the satellite radio service starts July 2nd.

Golf is a far cry from Cooper's former haunts. Back in 1980, the performer was scheduled to appear at the CNE. When he didn't show, all hell broke loose.
CFTR's Dana Lewis reported on the disaster, which resulted in a full blown riot.
You can hear his report on what happened next, here.

Many rock stars enjoy golf as a way to relax and unwind before concerts or while they're on the road. Huey Lewis, who enjoyed a number of hits in the 80s with his band, the News, was asked a few years ago why he loves the game:
“I didn’t take it up till I was 33. Why do I love it? It’s a gentlemen’s game, but we all give in to pressure which is a wonderful lesson for life. The Ryder Cup creates the most immense pressure, obviously—but it tells you that you must concentrate on every shot. At the same time, though, you must relax. What does it mean to me? Golf to me is not a game or a sport, it’s a pastime. It’s America’s pastime, not baseball. The object is to enjoy yourself while passing the time. Golf is about the smelling of flowers, as Walter Hagen once said. I’m a huge fan of golf and I love its integrity. Everyone who plays is transparently honest."
