I have to admit I wasn't as big a fan of 80s and 90s music as some other decades, but I love documentaries about radio stations, especially ones that were considered pioneers in their field. Which leads me to a new movie called "Dare To Be Different," about a legendary radio station called WLIR-FM in Long Island, N.Y.

In the early 80's, the place wasn't doing very well and with the permission of the owner, the PD made what would become a historic and unheard of decision: scrap all the Springsteen and the Stones, and play unknown new music that at the time no one had ever heard of, groups like U2 and Talking Heads. 

The station eventually lost its licence but not its reputation - and that's what the movie is all about.
