It happened back in 1969 and it's since become legendary - the day John Lennon headed the bill at an all-star concert at Toronto's Varsity Stadium. It almost didn't happen, because a lot of media didn't believe the story that the Beatle would be flying over from Britain.
Now a new documentary tells the story of that event, including the tale of how a Detroit area DJ - WKNR's Russ Gibb - helped ensure fans knew the rumours about Lennon coming were true. The film, called "Revival 69: The Concert That Rocked The World," debuts Friday over AppleTV+ and in limited theatrical release.
Gibb's involvement is part of that story and is relived in this article about how he became a small part of Toronto history.

This documentary is very interesting and well done, lots of great music clips and interviews. It isn't new however, came out in Canada in 2022. Crave first showed the doc over a year ago. US release is this Saturday June 28. CHUM didn't promote it at first because they didn't believe that John and Yoko were coming.
