The veteran Canadian troubadour died a year ago May, but his music most definitely lives on. You may remember a special tribute was held at Massey Hall to mark what would have been his 85th birthday, and now CBC Music and CBC Gem have announced the special featuring those stars will be available to the public for free, beginning on Canada Day Monday.
Among those performing and paying homage to the late crooner - Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson of Rush, Murray McLauchlan, Blue Rodeo, Sylvia Tyson and Burton Cummings.
It will also be broadcast at noon that day on CBC Radio 1.

Having seen bits of this as fan filmed clips on YouTube, I'm looking forward to the professionally produced show.
I am curious though as to why CBC is not running the TV version of this on the regular broadcast network. I guess they figure just about everyone has access to the Internet and can watch on Gem.
I do like the idea that they are running the audio version on CBC Radio for people spending Canada Day on the patio or at the cottage.
