He was one of Canada's finest actors, and he had a small part of radio in his background. This sentence from the AP obit stood out to me:
"Born in St. John, New Brunswick, Donald McNichol Sutherland was the son of a salesman and a mathematics teacher. Raised in Nova Scotia, he was a disc jockey with his own radio station at the age of 14."
I'd love to hear even one of those "broadcasts."
Donald Sutherland, the towering actor whose career spanned ‘M.A.S.H.’ to ‘Hunger Games,’ dies at 88

CKBW in Bridgewater, NS was the station according to the anecdote I heard 1010's Richard Crouse share, who also began at that same station.

His daughter is Rachel Sutherland, Kiefer's twin sister, but nobody talks about her and she's kind of a big deal in Canadian TV production.

And Rossif Sutherland. A very good actor in his own right. I think it is safe to say this is a Canadian Dynasty.

I actually loved Donald Sutherland as an actor and a Canadian with historic roots, being related to legendary Tommy Douglas for instance>
But my one and only experience with him was not so pleasant
I was on the evening shift on my Toronto radio station one evening when the phone rang>
When I answered an angry voice answered saying, "This is Donald Sutherland." He then proceeded to berate me for a news story he herd me read on my newscast. He did that horrible cliche of a bad celebrity, saying "do you know who I am?"
He then told me he was going to sue me and the radio station I was working for because of the news story he heard me read.
I tried to explain to him that the story I read on my newscast was written by our news wire agency (Broadcast News at the time) and that we just read what the news agency puts out which we assume is properly vetted and edited.
he would have none of that and told me we would be hearing from his lawyers etc etc.
I reported all that to my bosses, and as far as I know we never heard from his lawyers about anything.

Richard Crouse recalls Sutherland's beginnings in radio, and how it inspired him in his own career.
Managing to get a job at CKBW in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia as a very young teenager took persistence and determination - and the soon-to-be-star simply would not take "no" for an answer.
"The future Hollywood star hung around the station's parking lot week after week, waiting for the announcers to exit the building. When he saw someone, anyone, he'd ask if they would give him a job. Time passed, but eventually program director Jamie McLeod took a chance on him, and he worked there for three years as a news reader and disc jockey before embarking on a university and legendary acting career."
Before he made it on stage or in film, Donald Sutherland got his start in local radio
