CTV Toronto just had a report on Mississauga’s mayoral election. The first mistake was the reporter Sean Leathong saying that Mississauga is the third largest city in the country (wrong; in the province), second was the misspelling of candidate Carolyn Parrish’s name in the caption (they spelled it Parish), and third was the misspelling of candidate Dipika Damerla’s name (they spelled it Diplika).

The show was a mess in other ways, too. Partway through the international news pack, it looks like one of the videos didn't play, leaving both anchors visibly rattled when they tried to read their copy, only to realize they were still on camera. There were at least four or five boots or hesitant reads between the duo, a phenomena I've seen only too often before in my own TV news experience.
It often seems like if one thing goes off the rails in a live newscast, it creates an almost cascade effect where the next thing falls apart, and then the next. They finally got it back on track with the Emmanuel Macron story in France, but up till then, it wasn't pretty.

And at the very end, the big screen behind them went black for about a few seconds. It was technical glitches galore today for some reason, perhaps their debut on CP24 somehow tied to those issues?

Meanwhile over on 1010 the newscaster started off by saying people are going to the polls today to elect a new mayor, etc etc, the polls close tonight at 8pm etc etc. As I drove along in the car I kept waiting for him to say just where the election was being held. Hooterville? The planet Alderan?
Later after I had come back from some shopping 1010 told me the election was in Mississauga.
OK.

Reinforces the idea that Toronto media types believe Canada doesn't exist beyond the 407/centre of the universe etc. Almost as bad as when a former CFTO reporter covering a shooting at Toronto Eaton Centre called the mall the largest in the country.

West Edmonton Mall aside, even Park Royal in West Vancouver is bigger than the Eaton Centre, though you have to do some walking outside.

Ten bucks says CFTO is now using Ross Video's "OverDrive" system with a messed up rundown or inexperienced operator.
