There is renewed speculation Wednesday about the identity of that mysterious station up for sale in the GTA that created quite a buzz here in May.
Confirm or deny: it's Sauga960, the still relative newcomer from Mississauga (whose studios are actually based in Etobicoke.)
I have no idea if that's true or not, but there are rumours flying that the station available for the "bargain" price of $3 million is, indeed, CKNT-AM.
What amazes me, if that information is true, is how they think the place can possibly be worth that much. Not that there's a direct comparison, but many smaller AM stations in the U.S. have either had their transmitters turned off altogether or sold for prices in the hundreds of thousands of dollars - or less. Surely Sauga, if that's the station involved, can't possibly be worth $3 mill.

IIRC, the two Bell stations in Hamilton went for a combined $450K. So yes, $3-million is a bit much.

Yes and 960's signal does not have the reach of the two you mentioned.

I'm told the station for sale is 105.9 The Region.
Although, I'm sure you could buy Sauga or AM1220

Interesting. Another outlet that doesn't put in the best signal to Toronto proper. However the original ad clearly says it's an AM station.

That original ad includes this bold statement...
"...station can be heard everywhere in Greater Toronto and Ontario."
Really? Everywhere in Ontario?

Which, I suppose, is why some were speculating it might be AM740.

As mentioned in the other thread, every single station is excluded if it has to pass every line of the ad.
But if we go by "everywhere in Toronto and Ontario" "has its own app" and the price, it can only be 740.
