Rock Jocks Who Became Music Stars
Some are famous - Sylvester Stewart went from playing records on radio to making records in the studio as Sly and The Family Stone. B.B. King got his radio start by writing a commercial jingle. And of course everyone remembers that one who perished on the Day The Music Died was D.J. The Big Bopper.
This story recounts some jocks who went from radio control rooms to recording studios and the musicians who flirted with being hosts and jocks of their own shows when they weren't writing the hits.

We had a few in Canada as well. But a couple went from musician to announcer, like Kim Mitchell on Q, Randy Bachman and Vinyl Tap, Keith Hampshire had a good career in radio in the UK and at CKFH, also Keith did a lot of voice work for commercials. And he had a weekly TV show and 3 or 4 hits on the top 40.
Bob Sagarini had first a recording career and then on CHUM FM and Q107 announcing.

Ben Kowalewicz of Billy Talent worked at CFNY before the band took off. Jeff Burrows of The Tea Party was (is?) on the radio in Southern Ontario. Bif Naked is the station voice of Rogers' Rock stations. Hugh Dillon of the Heastones was the original station voice of LiVE 885 in Ottawa.

Joey "Bricks" Scaringi is the afternoon drive host on CHTZ (HTZ-FM) who entered the industry at the station in 2017 interning for Biggs & Barr before they pulled up stakes and moved to CHEZ 106 in Ottawa. For years, he has been a vocalist for heavy metal bands Duskwalker and Varius. He's also part-owner of Screaming Tunnels Haunted House in Niagara Falls.

Christopher Ward did overnights on CKPT Peterborough while attending Trent University in the late 60's early 70's. He wrote "Black Velvet" made famous by Alannah Myles and his own "Once in a Longtime" received a fair amount of Cancon air play. He became a long time MuchMusic VJ.

Peter Wolf lead singer with the J Geils Band was the all night DJ as Woofa Goofa on WBCN FM during their formative years.
