Form a French composer to a Canadian legend, and from Frank Sinatra (who came to hate the song) to David Bowie and Sid Vicious' versions, there's more to the origins of this classic than meets the ear. Although I think that warning about its role in multiple murders is a bit much.

If Anka never wrote another song this would be a one-hit wonder that he could have dined out on for the rest of his career.
Hopefully he would have avoided dining out at a karaoke bar.
One person I would really like to hear sing "My Way" would be Brian Ferry.
I don't think he ever has, at least not to be released to the public.

Anka already had his future revenues assured after writing the Theme from The Tonight Show in the Johnny Carson era. Played every night for decades and he must have gotten a small piece for each play.

Plus there wasn't a lot to write. He'd already written what became the "Tonight Show' theme as a song for Annette called "It's Really Love" in 1960. Only this one had words. The melody is identical. The smart thing Paul did was add Johnny Carson as co-writer insuring he would use it every night until he left. Which he did.
