For SOWNY purposes, the Nation's Capital is probably the most relevant. I don't think it's a surprise that CBC Radio 1 rules the roost in Ottawa, with Hot 89.9 next in line and CHEZ 106 coming in third. But the Corp. is so far in the lead, no one else even comes close.

CKTB does better in the numbers than its flagship sister CFRB has done in years. I know there aren't the same number of stations in the mix and it's a different market, but it still speaks volumes to me.

Number of stations makes it apples and oranges. I don't have the math skills to solve this equation, but lack of 640, 680 or even local CBC content is very significant.

Thanks for posting the numbers Aaron. I find my part of the woods in K/W really interesting. CHYM just chugs along. They have been number one in the market since the 70's when they were on AM 1490 and later 570. Musically pretty much a carbon copy of CHFi. CBC's local station was boasting that they had Waterloo Regions's number one morning show but maybe that is no longer the case.
Conestoga College's alternative radio station CJIQ must be thrilled with a 4.4 share 25-54 and ahead of 99.5 Bounce. All that lousy voice tracking and over modulation is coming back to haunt them! K/W's Bounce has had terrible audio quality over the past few weeks. CJIQ sells local ads and has some national advertising and some local car dealers on air.
Corus' The Beat still is ahead of Bell's Virgin at 105.3. CTV Kitchener plays promos for Bounce and Virgin all day long. Nice to see Dave Rocks at 107.5 doing well. They have some very good on air talent and play a fair bit of newer music.
Do you have anything for London? Usually another interesting and competitive market.

Unfortunately, the system I now use doesn't include CBC. They're likely where they were or higher.

Thanks Aaron. Virgin does great in London and one hour east in Kitchener/Waterloo not so much. And FM 96 still doing well. JACK FM in London sounds good, they seem to play a fair bit of new wave gold. Can't be many JACK'S around anymore. Surprising that Lite 92.1 has traditionally had a small impact in K/W but nothing in Hamilton. Evanov always has advertising on some of the buses or a few billboards in town for Lite and before that Jewel.

Hot 89.9 (a Stingray/ex-Newcap station) has long been a strong station in the National Capital Region, with solid personalities including Tri-Cities native Amy "Race" Ballard, who is Hot's music director and daytime host; and Kenny B, who I believe is an Energy 108 alumnus. Race and Kenny both have been with the station since day one in 2003. On the topic of Hot 89.9, it looks like someone has, in the last day or two, been tinkering with their RDS encoder - and got the frequency wrong:
One last note from Ottawa radio, and it's a sad one - former Majic 100 (CJMJ-FM) jock Saul Jacobson has passed. Fellow ex-Majic personality Codi Jeffreys, who is now with Evanov's "Hot Country" stations, shared the news tonight on her personal Facebook page.

Ottawa/Gatineau is a great radio market. Lots of stations and variety in my opinion.

Ottawa and Edmonton are probably the most competitive markets.

Wish the ratings were available to the interested public (like me who is not in broadcasting so don't have access). They used to be - not in complete detail - but usually 12+ and the prime adult category. I really miss that.

The ratings for Hamilton are kind of useless with 70% listening elsewhere.

Even in Waterloo Region (Kitchener/Waterloo) nearly half of the listening use to be out of town. We get most Toronto FM radio, Hamilton, London, Brantford, St Catharines and others to the north clearly in our area.
I think Aaron said last time that since Hamilton has no local CBC station, most in Hamilton would tune to 99.1 in Toronto and this also helps to put the out of town listenership up significantly. This in addition to all of the radio that booms into "The Hammer" from everywhere around the city.

Thanks for the Windsor ratings. I did not expect Country 89 and Virgin to go up the way they did. There has been ton of U.S. listening in the whole Windsor-Chatham-Sarnia portion of SWO for years. In the 70's and the 80's I bet there were some people who replaced their AM only car radios with ones that also had FM just so they could cruise around listening 101 WRIF.

These numbers are a percentage and only add up to 38. If we give CBC a 15 share (guessing) that means 47% of tuning is likely to Detroit stations,

You see a fairly big difference between K/W and London. With no local CBC radio included, Waterloo Region is at 42.7% out of town listening. London with not as much radio surrounding and little influence from Detroit or Toronto has only 29.2% out of town or market listening. If the local CBC Kitchener and London radio stations were added in, the out of market listening for both would be considerably lower.
Kitchener has more radio stations now than 25 years ago and it is nice to see that the percent of local radio listening has increased.

Speaking about out of market listening. The latest ratings for Buffalo/Niagara in April show up to 28% out of market listening 12+. Toronto from the winter ratings a few months ago in March had only 9% out of market listening in the demo 25-54. Buffalo/Niagara had 8 stations with under 1% share and Toronto had 9.
