The Things You Never Knew About CP24 Meteorologist Bill Coulter

Sometimes you stumble on a bio that surprises you. And so it was that I chanced upon a CP24 page outlining the many talents of Bill Coulter, who regularly does the weather on the local all-news channel, but also turns up on CFRB whenever there's a big storm or sky event taking place. (And is a weekly golf partner with morning man John Moore.)

But "weather" you knew it or not, there's a lot more to him than just radar maps.

According to his 24 page, Coulter is also an actor, who has appeared in shows like Nikita, Total Recall and The Kennedys. He wrote a children's script which was produced for TV when he was in his mid-20s, and - this is my favourite - he's a trained opera singer.

Which is why he not only knows a lot about the weather in your area but the music in your aria.

Maybe one day he'll sing the forecast.

His singing voice is a rich baromitone.

Meteorologists gotta be strong on their calculus skills - lots of change-measuring involved. In other words they best know their limits.

Bill Coulter was also a host for "Structures" a program produced and seen on Rogers Community Television in Toronto.

Structures showcased unique examples of architecture in Toronto both historical/period and modern/new.
As I'm a fan of "This Old House" and "Grand Design", I really enjoyed Structures when I could see it, and while is was produced.  I believe Tim Bolen also was a host of "Structures" either before or after Bill Coulter.

Talented guy. They work for competing stations, but it would be fun to pair him with 680 and City TV's weekend meteorologist Carl Lam. They could do the forecast as a duo. He's pretty amazing, too.

I first remember Bill from Structures, a brilliant show. I remember looking to see if there were any DVDs of the show available. I didn't have any luck.  Without naming names there were a few more people who hosted that show who went on to bigger things, and one in particular I remember reading about had a meltdown on an Air Canada flight and the plane was forced to land and she was arrested.  It's a pity great shows like that are simply erased from history by companies like Rogers without any way of being able to view them today. There's no reason why you couldn't watch the segments now because they were historical and timeless.   Structures was toast when Rogers ditched cable 10 programming in Ontario.

Carl Lam seems to be "Everywhere!"  Not just on CITY-TV,  but he was doing weather at the same time for Channel 2 WGRZ, then left for WKYC 3 in Cleveland but I saw him back on CITY 57 last weekend.  I think he does weather for a station out in B.C. too?

Nice guy.  Would be nice to see him get a permanent home...on TV

If I remember what I read correctly, this is his choice. He deliberately left WGRZ to freelance and he hasn't been out of work since. I complain all the time about weather people, but I actually really appreciate his efforts. When he's on 680 during his shift, he does live on the spot forecast updates, nothing recorded. So when he says 'expect rain in about 15 minutes,' that's generally when it comes.

One of the few meteorologists I consider really reliable. I wish he was on in this market more often.
