I'm not sure what inspired this tribute to "Rock Me Gently" on CTV News' website, but it's there. It reminds viewers that the song - Kim's biggest hit ever - was not popular with record companies when it came out. In fact, Kim was forced to issue it on his own label when everyone else rejected it.
You might say it did not go "gently" into that good night.

I'm much more of a Blues/Rock, not Pop, guy ..
but I willingly admit, Andy Kim's "Rock Me Gently" is a great tune that always sounds good ..

Hi RadioActive!
Friday, May 10 was the 50th anniversary of Rock Me Gently being released, hence the huge amount of media talking about it, and doing interviews with Andy Kim.
In terms of his solo career, RMG is certainly his biggest song, but co-writing Sugar, Sugar is far and away his biggest song he’s been a part of creating. That’s at 15 million copies sold worldwide, and sells a million every few years thanks to Spotify and YouTube streams.

Thanks for the info Mr. Alper. Always appreciate your expertise.
My original comment wasn't meant to denigrate the song, which was a huge hit around the world. I'm just not sure why this particular tune suddenly started getting so much coverage. Lots of amazing songs reach this milestone. I was just curious why this one was singled out (no pun intended) for tribute by so many.
I heard or read about it on CBC, CTV and CFRB, among others.

Hi RadioActive!
Oh, no slight taken whatsoever. I just wanted to answer the question, why now?
Keep up the great work here!
