Alan Cross Says CFNY Documentary Movie May Be Just "Months" Away

The former Spirit of Radio employee has been working on the story of one of the most extraordinary radio stations in Toronto history, and says it's all nailed down, with two small exceptions, which he hopes to have worked out soon.

Re: Alan Cross Says CFNY Documentary Movie May Be Just "Months" Away

It's all but ready and is finished post production. The film about CFNY may debut soon and it boasts a roster of well known names, including Rush's Geddy Lee, Steven Page of the Barenaked Ladies and Jim Kerr of Simple Minds, who all testify to how influential CFNY was to their careers in its heyday.

But the biggest star of all is the man who put his spirit into The Spirit Of Radio and a favourite contributor to SOWNY.

“Going into production, I thought we were telling a story about a radio station, but we quickly found out this was a really personal story about David Marsden’s vision and the alternative culture he created,” director [Matt] Schichter explained. Broken Social Scene’s Brendan Canning and Ohad Benchetrit wrote an original score for CFNY: The Spirit of Radio, which filmed across Canada, the U.S. and the U.K. at major recording studios like Abbey Road, EastWest, Grant Ave and Toronto’s legendary music venue the El Mocambo."

No immediate word yet on where or when you can see this rare documentary about a now legendary Toronto radio station, but I'm positive as soon as a date is announced, the news will be all over the place.
