This is incredible, I tuned into his weekend show for a bit today online and at 79 (almost 80) he still has it...I wish we could all work the biz and sound vital and be relevant into our 80's...

Although, the billing as the "breakfast flakes" as a morning show slogan, might be in reference to the Bran Flakes you need as fibre in your diet at 80+ years...

But bravo Red...job well done and a fabulous 60 year career! Unheard of these days!

 

This is a wonderful tribute to a legendary broadcaster.  Red was playing rock and roll on the radio years before CHUM became a Top 50 rock and roll radio station.  Roger Ashby certainly deserves his own day.
He started at 1050 CHUM the day after Labour Day 1969.  He moved to CHUM FM in 1985.  Even though the company has changed owners twice, Roger has remained steadfast,  He's been inducted into the Canadian Broadcast Hall of Fame.  Not to take anything away away from Roger, who is a Canadian broadcast legend, this is about Red Robinson, who deserves every award he receives and then some. He's an amazing broadcaster, proud Canadian and an even more proud Vancouverite.  

Somehow I doubt there will EVER be a Kilgore Day.

This is a time sensitive post, so my apologies if you don't see it in time. Red Robinson is on CISL Sunday afternoon, doing a special show celebrating his 80th birthday. with some special guests and of course, lots of radio reminiscing. Among the callers so far: J.J. Richards, formerly of CHUM, who admits to being 87 years old! 

Amazing how good Robinson still sounds. The show airs from noon-four B.C. time, which makes it three-seven PM Toronto time.

Good to see Red Robinson join the very exclusive fraternity of active octogenarian rock 'n' roll disc jockeys. There's Cousin Brucie, who at age 81 is still rolling along at SiriusXM, and Dick Biondi, who at 84 has a couple of weekend shifts at WLS-FM. I'm sure there's more, but I just can't think of them right now.
