They're asking that the feds in Ottawa consider throwing at least 70% of its ads their way as part of their upcoming budget, to help contribute to independently owned chains, including radio, TV, print and online entities. They also want a 20% tax credit to help "motivate" advertisers to make greater use of broadcast media.
Among those signing the letter: Stingray, Bayshore, Durham, Evanov, Pattison, Rawlco, Vista Broadcasting and Whiteoaks.
This all comes after Bell Media's bloodletting earlier this month and the sale of 45 stations, with one of its execs. insisting radio is "no longer a viable medium."

From the time it took power this liberal government drastically cut the amount of radio advertising it does and did its advertising mostly online.

Isn't advertising for companies already a tax write off? Maybe not all, but a portion? They get the GST back too. I am talking smaller advertisers here and not national. And before anyone brings up the situation from 45 years ago and advertising on Rock 102, the tax break is only for advertising on Canadian media. As it should be.
