Viewer Alert: Vintage 60s & 70s Concert Coming To WNED

It's called "American Pop Flashback! Great Hits Of The 60s & 70s" and it's hosted by someone who was there - Micky Dolenz, the only surviving member of the Monkees.

According to the program description page, it will "celebrate the feel-good songs of the 60s and 70s with a dazzling cavalcade of stars including Glen Campbell, The Osmond Brothers, Lesley Gore, Bill Medley, Crystal Gayle, Paul Revere and the Raiders, Tony Orlando, and more music icons performing their signature hits in contemporary concert performances."

Not sure when this was made, but it's not old black and white videos out of the vault. The promo reel shows these are live performances from the artists themselves, many now long gone. The 90 minute special airs twice on Channel 17. The first night is Monday, Feb. 26th at 9:30 PM. The repeat is at 1:30 PM on March 1st. Beware of possible fund raising interruptions, so if this tempts you, DVRing it is probably your best bet.

Thanks for the heads up.   It looks like one to see.   I set recording for the 2/26 @ 9:30pm show and only 90 minutes is allocated and by looking at the shows before and after, it's not a fund raiser.

Here's another music-related special that couldn't be more different. It's a two-night documentary on James Brown, aka "The Hardest Working Man In Show Business." According to the originating network, A&E:

"Across four hours, “James Brown: Say it Loud” traces the incredible trajectory of Brown’s life and career from a 7th grade drop-out arrested and jailed at the age of 16 for breaking into a car in the Jim Crow-era South, to an entertainment legend whose groundbreaking talent and unique perspective catapulted him to become a cultural force...

Consistently facing obstacles and unbelievable odds, the documentary details how Brown persevered
through decades of personal demons, racial injustice, and career setbacks to find redemption and become one of, if not the, most celebrated and influential artists of the 20th
century."

The special highlights his immense influence on Black music and the Black community. Those being interviewed include Questlove, Bootsy Collins and Mick Jagger, who also co-produced the documentary, as well as members of Brown's family.

It runs Feb. 19th and 20th on A&E.
