Well, that didn't take long. Less than 24 hours after the 1928 version of Mickey Mouse became public domain, there's already a new movie out featuring the Disney character. And - surprise! - like its Winnie The Pooh counterpart from 2022, it's a horror movie featuring the mighty Mouse with blood on his hands.
"In it, clips from Walt Disney‘s 1928 animated classic Steamboat Willie are shown interspersed with newly-shot footage that tells the story of a mouse mask-wearing killer who stalks college-age kids at an arcade.
Here’s the logline: It’s Alex’s 21st Birthday, but she’s stuck at the amusement arcade on a late shift so her friends decide to surprise her, but a masked killer dressed as Mickey Mouse decides to play a game of his own with them which she must survive."
There are some very tricky lines that can't be crossed in order to keep Disney from suing this thing out of existence. Were they careful enough? Time will tell. Meanwhile, you can watch the trailer below.

No single entity has abused the spirit of copyright more than Disney. I warmly embrace the coming adulteration of their former property.

Adult Swim, a program element of the Cartoon Network in the U.S., wasted no time in taking advantage of the old Mickey's new free-for-all public status
Here's what they did on air, later posted to Twitter/X.
