It doesn't come with much but the honour, but it's the recognition that counts. Two Ontario broadcast veterans have been awarded the Order of Ontario by the province's Lt. Governor.
CTV's Pat Foran was officially given the title Monday for his work on behalf of consumers, a beat he's walked for several years. The announcement names him as "Patrick Foran of Whitby" and says this:
"His relentless reporting on consumer fraud has helped thousands of people recover millions of dollars. This tireless advocate always gives back, determined to educate on financial matters. He speaks at libraries, churches and community centres, works with charities including Bloorview Kids Foundation and World Vision, served on the federal government’s Financial Literacy Task Force and wrote 4 best-selling books."
The other winner also has a huge track record in the business. Gary Slaight is part of a broadcasting family dynasty that's been involved in Q107, CFRB and many other radio related businesses. These days, he's taken the money they made and given it to a lot of charitable causes.
"As CEO of Standard Broadcasting, founded by his late father, Allan Slaight, Gary transformed the company into a leading force. Committed to making a difference, he continues the family’s philanthropy by supporting various causes, including healthcare, mental health, social services, at-risk youth, Toronto theatre and emerging Canadian artists."
Those winning the federal "Order of Canada" can put an O.C. by their name. Does this mean these winners can put an "O.O." there? Because I would guess when the crooked types see Pat Foran coming, they probably already say "Oh-Oh!" Now they'll be right!
Congrats to both.
