The music streamer claims it already promotes Canadian Content on its streaming services and that any extra costs it has to put into an industry it feels they already pay for would lead to cutbacks somewhere else. And in response to a CRTC question that they must have been asked to do this elsewhere, the answer was swift: you're wrong.
“Actually, you are the only country in the world that is looking at those contributions, at least at this stage,” [Spotify's Olivia Regnier] replied.
“We actually hope that this is not going to spread to other countries because it will be a real difficulty.”
