Why would you pick up a series that only ran one season and was cancelled, with no plans to ever make more? That's the question some are asking after The CW in the U.S. acquired the made-for-CTV Drama Channel show "Ride," which ran for only 10 episodes, then disappeared from Canadian screens, with no intention of continuing it.
Worse yet, it's already aired on the Hallmark Channel on cable down there.
I wonder if they might have changed their minds if they knew there was a chance it could be sold out of the country. But I hope viewers who tune in are aware it's a limited series. Knowing it's already off the air for good isn't exactly a reason to start watching.
‘Ride’: CW To Air Canceled Hallmark Series

I am not sure Ride was a made for CTV program. It played on CTV's drama channel and I think CTV2, don't recall it on the main network. The program seemed to be as much a Hallmark production as anything. It was shot in Alberta but set in Colorado, and articles on the show indicate that Hallmark gave the series the green light for the first seasons production.
Does the audience at CW really care if the show is only for one season? And how would they know anyway? I guess if it somehow became a surprise hit for CW they could look at a limited season two at some point.

Nothing worse than following a show you like only to have it cancelled it after just one year. Why the CW would pick up a dud is beyond me.

Over the 10 episodes Ride averaged a bit over 1 million viewers on Hallmark with a .09 rating 18-49. Of the three current scripted dramas on Hallmark, Ride was lowest rated. The 10 episodes ran on CTV Drama here in Canada. This was a Hallmark program with Bell Media listed as one of three production companies involved.
The show was similar to Heartland or When Calls the Heart and family friendly but Hallmark decided not to renew. For CW the series might be attractive and even if they only attract half as many viewers it would be their highest rated scripted show.
Looks like if there ever was to be more episodes, it would be up to CW.
