We're at that time of year when radio stations have launched their Xmas charity campaigns. Both of the local talkers, CFRB and CFIQ, have their own donate-a-thons going on, but one of them is a bit surprising.
'RB is doing its usual marathon for the Hospital For Sick Children on Thursday. Don't get me wrong, it's a great cause, but when it goes on all day long it gets to be a bit much and I find myself switching stations. They need to find a way to balance it out with regular programming or it becomes overwhelming. But at least you can donate by phone.
But it's the one at 640 that's really eyebrow raising to me. On Friday, they're asking listeners to come down to Corus Quay between 6-10 AM and drop off a used winter coat for adults or children. Morning host Greg Brady will be doing the show live from the lobby of the building to greet donors. Again, a great cause. But I can't help but wonder how many people will really be willing to face the horrors of Toronto's construction-obstructed traffic to drive all the way down there and drop off some apparel. It's a lot to ask, even for charity. They should have somehow found another way, perhaps drop-off points elsewhere in the city at major malls or the like.
I hope both raise a lot of cash and clothing. But I don't know if the folks at Corus thought this one through.

Worth noting for fans of John Moore, he won't be doing the morning show on Thursday. That's so he can show up during the afternoon shift to help raise money for the Hospital for Sick Children. Not sure who will be taking his place.
