Dan Shulman used to be solely a Leaf fan growing up. Then came the day in 1977 when the Toronto Blue Jays came to town and nothing was ever the same for the sports-crazed kid.
"Before Shulman’s voice became a faithful companion to baseball fans across North America, he was a sports-obsessed kid growing up in the north end of Toronto. He attended the Blue Jays’ first game at Exhibition Stadium and was hooked, even going so far as to tuck a radio under his bed sheets so he could listen to Tom Cheek long after bedtime had passed.
“I listened religiously,” said Shulman. “I’m sure many daily activities were planned around listening to games, within reason, but when I went to bed, if the Blue Jays were playing the radio was on.”
Broadcasting took Dan Shulman abroad, but his heart never left Toronto
